The 2018 fiscal year marks the fourth consecutive year of record sponsored research funding and the second straight all-time high for annual giving. Contributions to the university totaled $451.5 million, while research funding hit $454.5 million in fiscal 2018.
Sources of support include alumni, faculty, staff, retirees, students, corporations, foundations, parents and friends. The university is in the midst of its "Ever True: The Campaign for Purdue University," which has raised $1.964 billion in nearly three years on its way to a $2.019 billion goal. The campaign is slated to wrap up next year during Purdue’s 150th anniversary year.
Executive Vice President for Research and Partnerships Suresh Garimella says "the success of our faculty and staff is reflected not only in the increased federal grant funding, but also the continued strong support from corporations, such as Eli Lilly and Company and Rolls-Royce, as well as from many of the nation’s largest foundations."
More than 86,000 individual donors made contributions over the last year to Purdue, a record total, and Vice President of Development Amy Noah says "this outpouring of generosity equips Purdue for even greater excellence and it brings powerful momentum to the final year of our ‘Ever True’ campaign. We are grateful for the thousands of supporters who are each helping Purdue take the next giant leap."
Purdue also says its largest-ever freshman class of 8,300 is expected on-campus in the fall.
