Deba Dutta, who also serves as executive vice president of academic affairs and diversity, will begin his new role July 1.
Dutta joined Purdue in 2014 after serving as dean of the Graduate College at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Purdue President Mitch Daniels announced Dutta’s departure Thursday in a campus-wide email.
"Provost Dutta has made an enormous, positive difference for Purdue in less than three years. He has proven himself an effective change agent in a sector where such people are scarce," said Daniels. "Having a leader as talented and accomplished as Provost Dutta brings with it the risk that others take notice. This is one such example."
Purdue says an internal search for a new provost will begin at the start of the next academic year. The Purdue Dean of Agriculture, Jay Akridge, will serve as interim provost while Karen Plaut, senior associate dean for research and faculty affairs in the College of Agriculture will take Akridge’s place on an interim basis.
