In an update to the University Senate, Purdue President Mitch Daniels said the university is looking at property it currently owns to construct the facility.
Purdue cites market research, which indicates the spot on Northwestern Avenue would be convenient for families due to its proximity to residential neighborhoods, the Purdue Research Park and commute patterns.
The new facility would replace the Patty Jischke Early Care and Education Center. The Jischke center would remain open until a new building is completed.
Daniels said the process of finalizing plans and commencing construction is on course for an occupancy date of 2022.
