Purdue Fort Wayne to Eliminate Plastic Straws

Purdue University Fort Wayne is joining the West Lafayette campus in making a commitment to switch from plastic to paper straws in its campus dining facilities. Sourcing for the new paper straws is underway and the university plans to have them available at all campus dining locations next week.

The West Lafayette campus announced last week it will source its paper straws from Fort Wayne-based company Aardvark Straws. 

Aramark sells an estimated 15,000 fountain drinks on the Purdue Fort Wayne campus each year and representatives from the company say they are excited about the prospect of switching to a more sustainable alternative to plastic. They are currently finalizing sourcing for the paper straws.

“Sustainability is a high priority for our students, faculty, and staff – and we are always looking to improve,” said David Wesse, vice chancellor for financial and administrative affairs, in a news release. “This is the next logical step, and we’re pleased that Aramark is such a willing partner and advocate.”
