West Lafayette, Ind. — The National Business Incubation Association has awarded the Purdue Technology Centers and Purdue Foundry the 2014 Incubator Network of the Year award. This is the highest distinction awarded by the association. The honor was presented at the NBIA's 28th International Conference in Business Incubation.
The technology centers are located in the four-site Purdue Research Park network throughout the state of Indiana: West Lafayette, Indianapolis, Merrillville and New Albany.
“This award is the result of two decades of hard work and several significant entrepreneurial system improvements under Mitch Daniels' leadership during the past two years,” said Dan Hasler, president and chief entrepreneurial officer of Purdue Research Foundation.
Daniels is president of Purdue University and chairman of Purdue Research Foundation's Board of Directors.
Programs and initiatives established to encourage an environment of entrepreneurship include:
* Purdue Foundry, an entrepreneurial hub that supports faculty, staff and student innovators in all Purdue colleges and departments and actively engages outside businesses and investors to encourage collaborative research and startup development.
* Discovery Park Partners, a facility used by corporations interested in partnering with Purdue on research projects and for faculty, staff and student entrepreneurs who have founded a company and want access to Purdue research facilities.
* The Anvil, a nonprofit entity founded by students that is used for Purdue entrepreneurial co-space.
* The Foundry Investment Fund, a $12 million evergreen fund established by Purdue Research Foundation and Cook Medical to support Purdue-based life sciences companies.
* Deliberate Innovation for Faculty, a program that provides mentoring for Purdue innovators who have an interest in translating their inventions to the public through commercialization, collaboration or entrepreneurship.
* The Artisan and Fabrication Laboratory, a space is designed to provide students at Purdue with hands-on access to a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility.
“This award is one of the most prestigious to receive, and it epitomizes the hard work and strong collaborations among Purdue, entrepreneurs and our community,” said Greg Deason, executive director of the Purdue Foundry.
“The new initiatives of the past year have set a strong foundation for continued success in the technology transfer and business incubation arenas.”
The Purdue Research Foundation is headquartered in the Herman and Heddy Kurz Purdue Technology Center in the Purdue Research Park of West Lafayette. According to an independent report compiled by Thomas P. Miller and Associates of Indianapolis, the Purdue Research Park network provides an annual economic impact of $1.3 billion to Indiana's economy. The Purdue Research Park, which is the largest business incubator in Indiana and the largest university-affiliated business complex in the country, is home to the Purdue Technology Centers. The park is managed by the Purdue Research Foundation.
