Purdue says the program is the first of its kind and President Mitch Daniels says "the new curriculum program gives students an opportunity to further develop their math and science skills in order to bolster the future of the aviation industry and create new possibilities in transportation."
The new Purdue Polytechnic High School-Indianapolis will offer the program when it opens next August. The university unveiled the location Tuesday on the east side of Indianapolis. It is billed as an "alternative learning environment," designed to prepare students for challenges of the work force.
The AOPA, which called itself the world’s largest community of pilots and aviation enthusiasts, says the program will help fill an industry need and involves a variety of career opportunities, not just for pilots.
