A new public fishing area has opened in Morgan County. The Indiana Department of Natural Resources says the new area gives anglers better and safer access to the West Fork of the White River.

Three Rivers Public Fishing Area is located on State Road 67 just north of the State Road 39 intersection, about four miles north of Martinsville. The DNR says the area covers 39 acres of property on the west bank of the White River and offers more than a half-mile of shoreline access.

Prior to the opening of the new area, anglers had to park their vehicles along the road, which created a safety hazard. Now, parking is available on a gravel parking lot with a walking path taking angles to the river.

The DNR says the new area has excellent catfish, walleye, smallmouth bass and white bass fishing for anglers.
