Ballard helped spearhead the drive to land the Indy Women in Tech Championship presented by Guggenheim and says it will offer a national stage for the city’s tech sector and spotlight the need for more women in the ranks. He says a big focus is raising awareness of initiatives involving robotics, STEM-related opportunities and career transition programs.
During an interview with Inside INdiana Business at the tee-off event, Ballard said bringing more talented women into the tech community is key. "It’s a burgeoning work force here in the state of Indiana, particularly in central Indiana, and we want that to continue. But, it will only continue if we have the workers to go into these fields and if we don’t have it, then those companies are going to move somewhere else. So we want to make sure that we have that work force, which include a lot of women."
The LPGA event will tee-off next September and will feature 144 pros competing for $2 million in winnings. The last LPGA event at the Brickyard Crossing was the one-time 500 Ladies Classic in 1968.
