State primaries are underway and key contests include the first mayoral race in Fishers. Also, some influential state legislators are facing challenges. Our partners at WTHR-TV in Indianapolis report the race in Fishers has drawn six Republican candidates. Primaries that take place without presidential or gubernatorial candidates such as this year tend to bring in a low turnout.

All nine of Indiana's U.S. representatives are on the ballot.

Pete Visclosky (D-1), Jackie Walorski (R-2) and Luke Messer (R-6) are all running unopposed within their respective parties.

Marlin Stutzman (R-3), Susan Brooks (IN-5) and Todd Young (R-9) are all facing two others.

Andre Carson (D-7) is against three on the Democratic ballot and five candidates on the Republican side are vying to battle the incumbent in November.
