Indianapolis-based job matching platform Powderkeg has hired Rick Wehrle as chief technology officer. The company says Wehrle brings more than two decades of experience in software engineering, web analytics, and product development to the role.
Early in his career, Powderkeg says Wehrle built the first job board on the internet, which became Monster.com. He went on to become the vice president of product development at DirectEmployers, one of the largest employment networks in the world, and later founded mobile recruiting startup WorkHere, before transitioning into his new role at Powderkeg.
“Today’s top tech talent and job opportunities aren’t bound by geography. With the massive shifts in the workforce that we’ve seen over the past year, the demand for better job matching has never been higher,” said Matt Hunckler, chief executive officer of Powderkeg. “Rick joins our team at a critical time not only for Powderkeg, but the industry as a whole. The software industry alone provides nearly 16 million jobs to the U.S. economy and is growing faster than the overall GDP. I’m confident Rick’s expertise and talent in the HR-tech space will help us make an even bigger impact with our product and connect many, many more people with jobs they love.”
Powderkeg says its resources include the tech culture directory, a discovery tool that makes it easy to explore innovative tech companies and discover the attributes that make each company’s culture unique. Community-powered job matching tools also include matches, a new product that helps candidates connect with job opportunities at startups while helping employers plug into talent.
