The owners of a beloved restaurant in downtown Franklin say they can no longer stay in business. Jim and Mary Barnaby run Don & Dona's Restaurant and cite delays on a city-led fa?ade renovation program as a major factor in the decision to permanently close. Our partners at the Daily Journal report the project has stalled as a contractor hired by the city has missed several deadlines to complete to work.

Don & Dona's Restaurant opened in the mid-1980s. It is in a building that dates back to the 1820s.January 28, 2014

Friends, neighbors, and patrons

Another week, another month and still; no time schedule, no new information, or progress on the proposed construction.

After several agonizing family meetings, we have reached the following conclusion:

We must sell Don & Dona's, the buildings associated with Don & Dona's, and the building next door, 26 E. Jefferson St.

We want to thank you and thank you for sharing your family, stories, and jokes.

At this time, with construction in limbo, it's more expensive to try to operate than it is to close.

All gift certificates and invoices will be refunded and paid in full.

Please mail your certificates or invoices to:

With regards,

Jim & Mary Barnaby
