The Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians has awarded a $115,000 gift to South Bend-based Beacon Health System. The donation, which includes proceeds from the 2018 Four Winds Invitational golf tournament, will be used for new equipment for Beacon Children’s Hospital and Memorial MedFlight.
The Pokagon Band says the funds will underwrite two patient power-load system for the hospital’s pediatric emergency transport units and four portable radios for use during MedFlight patient transfers. To date, the partnership with the golf tournament has raised $545,000 for the health system.
"We are incredibly grateful for our long-standing friendship with the Pokagon Band, Four Winds Casinos and Blackthorn (Golf Club)," said Kreg Gruber, chief executive officer of Beacon Health System. "In seven years, they have raised over a half-million dollars to fund projects that directly help people when they need it most. We’re a stronger community because of them."
Previous donations from the tournament have been used to construct new facilities at Beacon, a new pediatric ambulance, and various equipment for both patients and healthcare professionals.
