Purdue University Northwest says the Nils K. Nelson Bioscience Innovation Building is nearing completion and has been officially handed over to the university for use. The 68,000-square-foot facility will house research and teaching labs as well as PNW’s College of Nursing and department of biological sciences.

Named for PNW organic chemistry professor Nils Nelson, the university says the building will soon be filled with furniture and equipment as it prepares for students and faculty to begin classes in the fall.

The university says the $40 million building aims to enhance the healthcare field for northwest Indiana. It will be the first new academic building on the Hammond campus in almost 20 years.

PNW began construction on the $40 million building in 2018.
