Plans Call For Hundreds of Jobs, Millions in Investment

Three expansions involving a total of nearly 400 new jobs have received a key approval from the city of Indianapolis. The largest is a $2.4 million planned investment from Texas-based BSN Sports LLC that is expected to create 192 jobs over the next five years.
The company says without the tax abatement approved by the Metropolitan Development Commission in Indianapolis, it would’ve considered taking the expansion to Dallas, Memphis or Columbus, Ohio. The planned addition of new manufacturing equipment and IT equipment will make the facility a regional headquarters for the Varsity Brands Co. subsidiary, which is also the parent of Indianapolis-based Herff Jones. The move is also expected to retain 291 positions.
The other final abatement requests that cleared the commission involve:
-$2.1 million investment in new IT equipment by Columbus-based Cummins Inc. into its new Global Distribution Business Headquarters in downtown Indianapolis, which is expected to create 160 jobs and retain another 90.
-D.E. Baugh Co. Inc.’s is looking to pump $830,000 into its Indianapolis facilities, adding 6 positions and retaining 24.
