Plainfield-Based Prime Distribution To Be Sold Plainfield-based Prime Distribution Services was started in 1990.

Roadrunner Transportation Systems (NYSE: RRTS) is selling its Plainfield-based warehousing subsidiary Prime Distribution Services to Minnesota-based C.H. Robinson (Nasdaq: CHRW) in a $225 million cash deal.

Prime provides warehousing and retail fulfillment services. The company says it employs approximately 270 people and has five fulfillment and distribution facilities across the U.S.

“Prime Distribution Services is a high-quality growth company that brings scale and value-added warehouse capabilities to our retail consolidation platform, adding to our global suite of services,” said Bob Biesterfeld, C.H. Robinson chief executive officer.

The agreement is subject to certain customary closing conditions, including regulatory approval.

“We believe this combination will position us well to continue to provide excellent service to our customers and foster growth by leveraging C.H. Robinson’s scale, expertise and core service offerings,” said Bill Vechiarella, president of Prime Distribution Services.

In addition to its Plainfield operations, Prime also has distribution centers in California, Georgia and Texas.

C.H. Robinson currently has three facilities in Indianapolis.
