A little over a month after Fort Wayne-based Physicians Health Plan of Northern Indiana was bought by Michigan-based Priority Health, the group’s CEO is stepping down.
On Wednesday, Priority Health announced the retirement of Gary Shearer, who has served as president and CEO of PHP since 2019. Shearer will leave the company at the end of January.
In his place, Priority Health is elevating PHP’s chief sales officer, Ross Hensley, to lead the organization.
“Ross brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record of success to drive the company forward. He is trusted and well respected in the marketplace, and we know he will make a significant impact in his expanded role,” Priority Health Senior Vice President of Employer Solutions Rick Abbott said in a press release.
The press release does not say Hensley is taking the title of CEO. The release says he will “represent PHP more broadly in the community and through business and industry endeavors, while continuing to lead PHP’s sales team.”
PHP serves around 50,000 members in northeast Indiana and Ohio. Priority Health did not disclose a sales price when it acquired PHP in December. PHP did say the total proceeds of that sale went to the PHP Foundation in Fort Wayne.
Priority Health is a nonprofit plan providers with close to 1.3 million members in Michigan, Indiana and Ohio.
