The Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America has named David Ricks chair of its board of directors. He serves as chairman and chief executive officer of Eli Lilly and Co.

Ricks previously served as chairman-elect and before that, the position of treasurer. He succeeds Giovanni Cafori, chairman of the board and CEO, Bristol Myers Squibb.

Ricks has been with Lilly for more than 20 years. He was named CEO in January 2017 and elected chairman of the Lilly board in June 2017. Prior to his role as CEO, Ricks advanced through a series of global leadership positions across the organization, including general manager of Lilly Canada, president and general manager of Lilly China, president of Lilly USA and most recently, president of Lilly Bio-Medicines from 2012 to 2016.
