In his new role, Rasp will lead the overall direction and coordination of medical care for the organization.
Rasp will also serve as physician advisor and educator, where he will act as the principal liaison with practitioners. The company says Rasp will advise on medical issues, utilization management and medical policy. He previously served as medical liaison and interim medical director for PHP.
"Fred’s well-respected history of service as a practicing physician, colleague, and mentor in our medical community, along with his background as a PHP board member and interim medical director, uniquely qualifies him to assume these important responsibilities," said Mike Cahill, PHP president and CEO. "His knowledge of local and national healthcare organizations and memberships in multiple, professional medical societies, will allow PHP a true collaboration with our physicians, hospitals, and other healthcare providers. This collaboration will help meet our medical management goals, assuring our members obtain the right care, by the right provider, in the right place, at the right time, for the right price."
An Elkhart native, Rasp has practiced critical care and pulmonary medicine for over 30 years at Parkview Hospitals and Lutheran Health Network Hospitals. He is also the medical director of the PACE Clinic at the Orthopedic Hospital of Fort Wayne.
"PHP is an insurance organization with strong regional physician and community support," said Rasp. "I am very pleased to be able to continue contributing to the services that PHP provides the companies and families of our area."
