The celebration comes after four years of construction on U.S. 31 between I-465 and State Road 38.
Pence will be joined by Carmel Mayor Jim Brainard, Westfield Mayor Andy Cook, Congresswoman Susan Brooks (R-5) and various project team members and contractors. Crews shifted traffic this week onto new bridges over 106th and 116th Streets and removed the final two traffic signals from the three U.S. 31 Major Moves projects.
Officials say the improvements to U.S. 31 will decrease traffic time between South Bend and Indianapolis by 30 minutes. Mayor Cook said in October that upgrading U.S. 31 to freeway standards has helped open the door for Westfield to compete for national economic development projects.
The celebration will begin at 9:30 a.m. Monday in the parking lot just north of the Meridian Mark II office building in Carmel.
