Pence Plans Regional Cities Ceremonies
Governor Mike Pence will ceremonially sign the bill allocating full funding for the Regional Cities Initiative at events this week. The measure was part of the $1.2 billion road and bridge funding bill passed by Indiana lawmakers this year.
The Regional Cities Initiative aims to help increase population and boost quality of life in communities throughout Indiana. Regional plans in northeast, north central and southwest Indiana were each awarded $42 million. The state originally allocated $84 million for the program. This year’s road and bridge funding bill provided the additional $42 million.
The Indiana Economic Development Corp. says the three plans include around 100 quality of place projects totaling more than $2 billion in combined public and private investment. Many of the projects are scheduled to be complete by the end of 2018.
Pence will take part in signing ceremonies Tuesday in Evansville and Wednesday in Goshen.
