Pacers Bikeshare Marks Second Anniversary

The Pacers Bikeshare program in Indianapolis is celebrating its second anniversary today. Indianapolis Cultural Trail Inc. is reporting more than 117,000 trips in its second year, an increase of 10,000 over the previous year.
The organization says the 117,319 trips equated to about 243,782 miles, which is almost nine times around the globe. The program boasts more than 1,200 annual members and more than 28,000 day passes for its second year. Organizers estimate riders burned more than 9.6 million calories, or the equivalent of 49,605 donuts, and reduced over 230,000 pounds of carbon, which is like taking 28 cars off the road for a year.
Pacers Bikeshare features 250 bikes at 27 stations throughout the city. The program will add its 28th station, on the Eskenazi Health campus, later this spring.
Indiana’s second largest city is joining in on the idea. Fort Wayne’s bike rental program launches today, and features a fleet of bicycles available at self-service stations.
Indiana Pacers Bikeshare launched on April 22, 2014.
