Ortho Company Opens in Fort Wayne

A medical device manufacturer has cut the ribbon on its new facility in Fort Wayne’s Urban Enterprise Center. Global Medical Industries Inc. manufactures implants and instruments for extremity, spine and joint surgical procedures.
The company was founded by Victor Lopez, who serves as chief executive officer. He says he hopes to grow his employee count from four to 12 by the end of the year. He says Global Medical will have a secondary focus of supplying products for the aerospace industry.
Lopez says he has taken advantage of several resources available to new businesses. He says the company has received a startup grant from Elevate Ventures and help with a business plan, financial projections, funding referrals and business strategies from the Northeast Indiana Small Business Development Center.
Global Medical Industries is eligible for personal property tax abatement on its equipment for 10 years because of its location in the Urban Enterprise Center. The Urban Enterprise Association is a nonprofit aiming to help revitalize Fort Wayne’s urban core.
