Opera Singer Among IU Honorees
Brown received the 2009 Indiana Governor’s Arts Award and is a member of the Indianapolis Public Schools Hall of Fame.

Subscribe NowThree Indiana University graduates will receive Distinguished Alumni Service Awards during homecoming next weekend. The recipients are Angela Brown of Indianapolis, J. Terry Clapacs of Bloomington and Ezra “Zeke” Friedlander of Indianapolis. President Michael McRobbie will present the awards October 16 during a ceremony in Alumni Hall at the Indiana Memorial Union.
Brown, an internationally acclaimed soprano, has performed in venues around the world, including the Metropolitan Opera Company, Vienna Staatsoper, Teatro La Fenice and the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
Clapacs retired from IU in 2009 as vice president emeritus. He also served as vice president of facilities, vice president of administration and vice president and chief administrative officer. Clapacs served two years as athletics director. He has received Sagamore of the Wabash awards from two Indiana governors.
Friedlander studied history and law at IU. He was also a Singing Hoosier. Friedlander is a former deputy prosecutor and has served on the IU Northwest Campus Advisory Committee and on the IUPUI Chancellor’s Circle. He is a recipient of the Sagamore of the Wabash.
Meanwhile, Indiana University alumna Sage Steele received her award in May and will be acknowledged during next week’s program. Steele co-hosts ESPN’s SportsCenter and hosts the network’s NBA Countdown program.
The recipients were chosen for service and achievement and significant contributions to the community, state or nation.
