The Indiana Department of Transportation says the meetings will cover the land purchase and relocation process of Section 6.
INDOT says an impact review is underway and, at this point, it does not know the precise amount of land needed. At the meetings, it will not be purchasing land. A draft environmental assessment document and public comment opportunities are expected to be available early next year. A full environmental review is slated to be complete in 2018.
Section 6 is the final portion of the I-69 expansion which aims to connect Indianapolis and Evansville. The agency announced selection of the preferred route in March. The first four sections are complete. Growing the interstate was a focus of the former Governor Mitch Daniels’ administration and has also drawn interest from Governor Mike Pence, who announced plans in June for a long awaited extension of the road from Evansville through Kentucky and beyond.
The Section 6 meetings are scheduled for August 15 at Perry Meridian High School in Indianapolis and August 16 at Martinsville High School, both between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m.
