Subscribe NowNortheast Indiana Works has launched a website designed to provide assistance to soon-to-be displaced employees of United Technologies Electronic Controls in Huntington. About 700 employees are expected to be out of work because company’s parent, Connecticut-based United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX) is relocating operations to Mexico.
The webpage aims to assist employees with education, training and social services providers who can help those workers transition to new employment opportunities in the region. The page includes contact information for the Huntington County Community Learning Center, higher education institutions such as Huntington University and IPFW as well as the United Way.
Northeast Indiana Works says layoffs could begin in 2017. In February, UTEC said it would keep its headquarters, engineering and product marketing organizations in northeast Indiana. Carrier Corp. in Indianapolis, another UTC subsidiary, also plans to keep headquarters in Indy, while manufacturing operations also move to Mexico, affecting about 1,400 employees.
Northeast Indiana Works Director of Communications Rick Farrant told Inside INdiana Business in March the organization planned to be a "single point of contact" for displaced workers.
