NEW ALBANY, Ind. – One Southern Indiana (1si), the chamber of commerce and economic development organization serving Clark and Floyd Counties, today announced a new staff addition. Suzanne Ruark has been hired as the new director of marketing and communications.

In her new position, Ruark is responsible for the conception, development and implementation of all of the organization's marketing strategies, marketing communications and public relations activities. In addition, she will direct the efforts of the communications staff and coordinate with the other departments of 1si, both at a tactical and strategic level.

Wendy Dant Chesser, President and CEO of 1si said, “We are very excited about Suzanne joining the team. Her experience will serve our members and investors well as we share our plans and activities aimed at growing the economy in Southern Indiana and throughout the region.”

Most recently, Ruark was the director of marketing and events at the TriState Minority Supplier Development Council with offices located in Louisville, Kentucky. She brings a wealth of experience to the organization in areas such as communication, social media marketing, website maintenance and planning, promotion and execution of major events.

“I'm joining a great organization at an exciting time. We're jumping right into our website and other online tools to better serve our members, as well as branding the organization and the community to showcase the many economic assets and successes we enjoy,” Ruark stated.

A native of Western Kentucky, Ruark graduated from University of Kentucky with a Bachelor's in History and went on to receive her Masters at Murray State University. Ruark's background includes careers as Director of the Paris-Henry County Heritage Center in Paris, Tennessee and as a development director at Rauch Inc. and Pitt Academy.

Additionally, Ruark has volunteered for a host of organizations sitting on several committees and holds a certificate in Fundraising Management from IUPUI's “The Fundraising School” School of Philanthropy.
