An Illinois-based oil drilling and fracking company will be the focus of an economic development announcement Tuesday in Knox County. The Indiana Economic Development Corp. says executives from Franklin Well Services Inc. will join Governor Mike Pence with details on jobs in downtown Vincennes. Franklin Well Services has a location in the Knox County city.

The Wabash Valley has been a focus for oil drilling in recent years. In 2013, another company headquartered in Illinois, Pioneer Oil Co. Inc. received clearance to begin drilling in downtown Terre Haute.

A recently-established nonprofit designed to boost Vincennes' downtown credits a Pioneer Oil executive with being a “catalyst” for its formation. InVin Inc. Arts, Business & Innovation Initiative Executive Director Elizabeth Cutter-McNeese told Inside INside Indiana Business last year Chief Financial Officer Steve Miller was instrumental in the efforts.

Additionally, Indianapolis-based CountryMark reached an agreement in 2011 with the Vigo County School board to lease gas and oil mineral rights under an elementary school in the Vigo County School Corp. It followed the company's announcement earlier that year about a significant oil discovery in the county.

Franklin Well Services bills itself as “the premier oil and gas service company in the Illinois Basin.” It provides acidizing, hydraulic fracturing, cementing and drilling fluids services in Indiana, Illinois and Kentucky.
