Preliminary work is underway on a more than $4 million domed athletic facility in Crown Point. Our partners at The Times of Northwest Indiana report Mayor David Uran is calling the arena a “game-changer.” The Sparta Sports Dome is located at the Sportsplex.

The Times says it will include space for two regulation softball or baseball fields, plus it could be configured for soccer, football, lacrosse, volleyball or running activities.

The dome is the brainchild of Tae'Ni and Jacqueline Chang-Stroman. Tae'Ni is a physician in Dyer.

An Illinois company will construct the foundational structure and a group from Canada is building the dome.
