NSA Crane, which is the third-largest naval installation in the world, opened in 1941 and covers 100 square miles in southwest Indiana. Saturday’s celebration will be held at the base’s sports complex, which is located outside of the main gate.
"By having this celebration off base, we can bring the community and the base together," said NSA Crane Spokesperson Jeff Nagan. "For the last 75 years, the community has been integral to our success. To show our appreciation, we wanted this event to be open to the public. Between the vendors and the outdoor activities, there’s something for everyone."
On Monday, Congresswoman Jackie Walorksi read a letter into the congressional record in honor of the installation’s 75th anniversary and the U.S. Navy’s 241st birthday.
"American Naval Supremacy and military readiness depends on the ability to harness the power of cutting edge technologies that NSWC Crane supports," Walorski said. "Because of the hardworking employees and military personnel, the exceptional men and women of our armed forces are well equipped to defend our nation and support our allies across the globe."
