William Donahue has been appointed director of the Nanovic Institute for European Studies at the University of Notre Dame. He has been a professor of humanities with the university and has served as chairman for the department of German and Russian languages and literatures since 2015.

Donahue holds a Ph.D. in German literature from Harvard University and studies contemporary German literature and film. He is author of two books on German literature and its impact.

Donahue succeeds James McAdams, who has led the Nanovic Institute since 2002.
