The school last year announced a partnership with the historic Newman University Church to establish a center designed for young professionals.
Rev. Jenkins will join Rev. Diarmuid Martin in inaugurating the center with a Thursday mass. The center is named for the church’s founder, John Henry Newman. Thursday’s event will also include a lecture of faith and reason in a secular age by Notre Dame theology professor Cyril O’Regan and a new mass created by Irish composer Patrick Cassidy.
Jenkins says the partnership allows the schools to celebrate Newman’s "towering contributions to the dialogue of faith and reason with the university’s deep connection to the people, culture and nation of Ireland."
The Notre Dame-Newman Centre provides services including cultural events, a lecture series and liturgy and music to Dublin. The center’s staff includes an international service and outreach team for recent college graduates. Notre Dame’s work in Ireland includes several teaching and research projects with the Keough-Naughton Institute for Irish Studies and a partnership with the Dublin Global Gateway.
