Northwest Indiana Staple Set to Close

A more than century-old butcher in Merrillville has announced plans to close its doors. Our partners at The Times of Northwest Indiana report Piatak Meats was known for making 25 different types of homemade sausages and grinding fresh meat daily.
The butcher shop first opened in Gary in 1910 and moved to Merillville in 1959.
"We have an announcement, it’s rather sad, but after 100+ years of serving the community, we are closing the shop. It’s a sad time for us, but business just isn’t what is used to be," the company said on Facebook. "We have appreciated all the years of serving you!"
The shop says it will have a closing sale, which will last until all products are gone.
