Northwest Indiana Parks Receive Federal Grants

Congressman Pete Visclosky (D-1) has announced Glen Park in Portage and Firemen Park in Griffith will receive a total of $300,000 from the Land and Water Conservation Fund.
Glen Park is receiving $200,000 to support renovations, including concession building remodeling and restrooms, and the addition of an open-air shelter to the building. The grant will also replace fencing at existing ballfields, lighting fixtures, a multi-use trail, benches and tables. Fireman Park will receive $100,000 for various renovations, including a new pavilion, restrooms, accessible walkways, parking, native plantings, landscaping, benches and signage.
Congressman Pete Visclosky stated, “I congratulate the communities of Portage and Griffith for their diligence to successfully obtain these outstanding LWCF grant awards and improve our region’s quality of place. I have been a strong supporter of the LWCF through the House Appropriations Committee, and I believe that this program is essential for communities in Northwest Indiana and throughout our nation to enhance public access to our parks and outdoor recreational opportunities.”
