State’s First Nonprofit Coworking Space Opens

Hoosier nonprofits and social entrepreneurs now have a place from which to build their organizations. Launch Cause, the state’s first coworking space dedicated specifically to nonprofits, is open and accepting new members. In an interview on Inside INdiana Business Television, co-founder Steven Shattuck said he wants to give nonprofits an affordable place to get started.
Shattuck said a lot of coworking spaces tend to be passive toward businesses. He said he wants to give members of Launch Cause more than just a desk and a conference room.
"We want to help nonprofits really get started and launch," said Shattuck. "We are surrounding the members with for-profits who serve nonprofits: lawyers, accountants, designers, all those support services and we’re going to have programming. We’re going to have weekly lunch-and-learn seminars and after hours events. We will extend the invitation to that kind of programming beyond just the membership."
Shattuck said locating in an affordable coworking space also lets donors know that the nonprofits they are supporting are using their money wisely and serving their mission.
The 6,800 square-foot facility is fully furnished with 14 offices, 21 semi-private work stations and coworking space for up to 30 people. Members have access to a variety of amenities, including WiFi, steel lockers, reservable conference rooms and office equipment.
Launch Cause already has more than a dozen new and established nonprofits as members, such as the Hoosier Farmers Market Association, the Indiana Music and Entertainment Museum and the Indianapolis Monumental Marathon. Shattuck says for-profits can also register as members, signifying them as preferred vendors for nonprofit members.
