Next Board Chairman Set at Anthem

Liz Tallett, who has served on the board since 2013, will succeed former Chief Executive Officer Joe Swedish in the role following his retirement from the board May 16. Tallett spent 35 years in top leadership positions with health care, pharmaceutical and consumer products companies.
George Schaefer has served as the board’s lead director since Swedish succeeded him as chair in December 2015. Schaefer will remain with the board, but step down as lead director once the chairman transition is complete. He says "we are pleased to name Liz as independent Chairman of the Board. Since joining Anthem’s Board of Directors in 2013, Liz’s extensive breadth of experience has helped Anthem successfully navigate the opportunities and challenges of a dynamic health care environment and we look forward to continuing to benefit from her experience and valuable insight as she assumes her new Board role."
Tallett previously worked for organizations including Hunter Partners LLC, Transcell Technologies Inc. and Centocor Pharmaceuticals. She currently serves on multiple boards of directors, including Meredith Corp., Principal Financial Group Inc. and QIAGEN N.V.
Anthem announced Swedish was stepping down from Anthem leadership in November and Gail Boudreax was selected CEO.
