New Women’s Network Starts Up in Fort Wayne

Greater Fort Wayne Inc. has launched an effort to drive connections among northeast Indiana organizations, networks and individuals supporting and empowering women. The GFW Inc. Women’s Network will support career enrichment and professional development initiatives, as well as host events and programs focused on embracing diversity and boosting quality of life. Director of Investor Services and Programs Jami Thomas says it’s the right time to establish the program.
In an interview with Inside INdiana Business, she explained the Women’s Network’s vision. "We really hope it unites existing women’s groups here in the area," she said, "and it gets those groups working together towards some common goals." Ultimately, Thomas added, the program could help bolster the pipeline of leaders who are women and increase Allen County’s profile in the global economic development ecosystem.
One key area of the network’s focus is mentorship. "Mentoring is hugely important, and not just with women leadership," Thomas said. "We have great women mentors and we have great women that are looking for mentors, so it’s really just connecting the two together in hopes to retain the fabulous women that we have here in Fort Wayne."
Upcoming event’s connected to the network include: small group discussions May 23 and June 22, a storytelling-focused luncheon October 24 titled "Women Who Lead: In Their Words," and a new recognition — the Hamilton Sisters Leadership Award — that will launch early next year to honor lasting contributions to the development of the community and country.
