New VP of Strategy For CountryMark

Indianapolis-based CountryMark has named Brian Pope as the co-op’s new vice president of strategy. Pope previously served as director geology and asset management for CountryMark Energy Resources LLC in Evansville.
Pope will be responsible for evaluating and managing new strategic business opportunities and initiatives. CountryMark says Pope will work with the executive leadership team to align the strategic business plan "based on a comprehensive understanding of CountryMark’s strategy, goals and objectives."
"The vice president of strategy position is one of great responsibility and I’m humbled to be chosen to lead CountryMark in that capacity," said Pope. "I’m looking forward to helping identify opportunities that will allow us to take advantage of the tailwinds of our integrated business, while also positioning the company for minimal exposure to the headwinds that might face us."
Prior to joining CountryMark in 2011, Pope served as staff geologist, drilling and completion director and vice president of Newburgh-based Trey Exploration Inc.
Pope’s new role also means another change for CountryMark’s leadership. Matt Smorch, who had previously served as vice president of supply and strategy, will become vice president of supply and optimization for CountryMark Refining and Logistics.
