Holy Cross College in Notre Dame has appointed David Tyson president for a five-year term. The former University of Portland president has served in an interim basis since April. Prior to taking the helm at Holy Cross, Tyson was director of nonprofit professional development at the University of Notre Dame’s Mendoza College of Business.

Tyson, Holy Cross’s fifth-ever president, succeeds John Paige, who left the college for another opportunity in Catholic higher education. A Notre Dame graduate, Tyson also previously served as executive assistant to the South Bend school’s former president Theodore Hesburgh and later, was vice president for student affairs. He was head of the University of Portland from 1990-2003 before becoming provincial superior of what was then called the Indiana Province of Holy Cross.

Holy Cross says details of a formal inauguration in the fall will be announced later.
