Our partners at The Times of Northwest Indiana report ReEnergize USA has purchased the facility, which closed last year, and plans to hire 60 full-time employees.
Commercial In-Sites LLC in Merrillville announced the move in a news release. Financial details of the acquisition were not immediately released.
"The 120,000-square-foot main production facility will house a state-of-the-art tire recycling operation which will be the first of its kind in North America," Commercial In-Sites said. "The new facility will have approximately 60 full-time employees and will seek to hire back former employees of the closed Stanrail Corp."
Nearly two years ago, Canada-based Samuel Roll Form Group announced the timeline for laying off more than 100 workers from the factory, which made components for rail boxcars. The factory closed for good in February 2017.
A timeline for the plant to reopen was not given.
