New leader for Indiana Association of Public School Superintendents

A former Indiana superintendent of the year has been named the next executive director of the Indiana Association of Public School Superintendents.
Jeffrey Butts, now the superintendent of the Metropolitan School District of Wayne Township in Indianapolis, will begin his new role Jan. 5. He will succeed Robert Taylor, who plans to retire.
“Supporting the success of superintendents has never been more important,” Butts said in the news release. “I look forward to continuing the association’s legacy of strong advocacy, customized professional development, and a shared commitment to educational leadership across Indiana.”
Butts has held numerous leadership roles within the association, including president, chair of the Policies and Resolutions Committee, and District V chair. He also has contributed to a number of the association’s coaching programs for educators.
He has served as the superintendent of the Metropolitan School District of Wayne Township for 15 years and received the Indiana Superintendent of the Year Award in 2019. A Purdue University doctoral graduate, he has more than 30 years of experience in public education.

The Indiana Association of Public School Superintendents, established in 1960, provides professional development for educators and advocates for public policies its membership believes will improve public education.
Taylor has served as executive director since January 2021, according to his LinkedIn profile.
