The initiatives are being launched with financial support from the Indiana Economic Development Corp.
The new programs will focus on four key areas: coding, community innovation competitions, high school career exploration, and a "Launch and Learn" innovation series. Launch Terre Haute says it hopes the programs will inspire innovative ideas within the community and expose students to 21st century skills and career paths.
"We are looking forward to offering new programming in our region that allows us to continue identifying and developing our entrepreneur and innovation ecosystem," said Shelley Klingerman, executive director of Launch Terre Haute. "The new programming will directly support LTH’s goal of community innovation by supporting their strategy of introducing and training the concepts of emerging technologies to their business community and entrepreneurs."
The IEDC awarded $60,000 to support the new programming, which includes:
Coding Programs:
- Two-day introduction to coding where course participants will gain a better understanding of coding languages by learning from skilled instructors in an always-in-the-code instruction style — not through textbooks, tutorial videos or step-by-step forms.
Launch and Learn Innovation Series:
- Series of fast-paced boot camps geared toward boosting the skills necessary for success in today’s competitive business environment. Experienced executives and new startup founders alike will reap the rewards of industry experts and university staff sharing their knowledge in the creative, collaborative environment of Launch Terre Haute.
High School Career Exploration Series:
- The High School Career Exploration series will focus on exposing students to career paths that are not traditionally explored in the average school setting (i.e. coding, IoT (Internet of things), cybersecurity, gaming and entrepreneurship).
Community Innovation Competitions:
- The objective of these competitions is to work with Terre Haute and Vigo County to help improve the quality of life for its residents, businesses and visitors. Participants in the Launch Community Innovation Competition could design an app, plan a new park or create a city marketing plan, introducing new ideas and thoughts into the community.
