Indianapolis, Ind. — The Indiana Commission for Higher Education (CHE) has approved new transfer degree pathways that allow Ivy Tech Community College students who earn certain associate degrees to transfer to any state institution of higher education as a junior when pursuing a bachelor’s degree.
A single articulation pathway has been created for associate degree programs in Business Administration, Criminal Justice, Elementary Education, Special Education, Early Childhood Education, Human and Social Services, Electrical Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering, and Nursing. These pathway programs will be offered to students beginning in fall, 2015.
“This is the next step in streamlining the transfer process with our in-state four-year partners,” said Thomas J. Snyder, President of Ivy Tech Community College. “Other high performing states like Florida have seen how successful this can be throughout the state. These new pathways provide an affordable option allowing Hoosiers to start their journey via the community college and transfer to any state school. It creates more on-time graduates and more Hoosiers entering the workforce with credential sooner.”
The college is also working on additional single articulation pathways for Computer Science and Information Technology.
The statewide single articulation pathways have been developed to pursue a single, common curriculum in particular programmatic areas that will articulate, without alteration, with related baccalaureate degrees at all four-year state education institutions that offer the equivalent baccalaureate degree.
A student transferring through the program can apply all the credits earned for a bachelor’s degree and begin as a junior.
Students who are unsure about their specific educational path, but intend to transfer to a four-year college, are also currently able to enroll directly into the general education core transfer certificate program or a transfer-oriented associate degree program.
