Nasser Paydar’s goals also include increasing diversity, targeting a 50 percent increase in the school’s African-American population by 2020.
Paydar has a long history with the Indianapolis school. He joined IUPUI’s faculty in 1985 as an assistant professor of mechanical engineering. He has held several administrative and executive leadership positions over the past 30 years. He most recently served as executive vice chancellor and chief academic officer.
He was installed earlier this month as the school’s fifth chancellor. IU President Michael McRobbie, Purdue University President Mitch Daniels and Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard took part in the ceremony. Paydar succeeds Charles Bantz, who stepped down after 12 years in the position.
