Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett has selected Patrick McAlister as director of the Office of Education Innovation. McAlister most recently served as director of policy for the Indiana Department of Education.
In his new role, McAlister will be responsible for identifying and attracting new teaching talent and collaborating with community stakeholders to develop plans to improve education in the city.
"Patrick’s background positions him to execute the vision of revitalizing Indianapolis by creating quality educational opportunities for all students," Hogsett said in a news release. "Under his leadership, the Office of Education Innovation will continue to set ambitious goals while focusing on results that benefit the entire community. We are fortunate to have Patrick working to shape a better tomorrow for our city’s children."
During his time with the IDOE, McAlister led the development of the state’s Every Student Succeeds Act consolidated plan. He also co-led the Teach Plus Indiana network of more than 2,000 teachers.
