Mishawaka, Ind. — Tom Visker, Ph.D., begins his tenure today as athletic director for the Bethel College Pilots, transitioning from his previous role as professor of kinesiology and dean of humanities and education.

“Tom is a gifted teacher, mentor and coach,” says Shawn Holtgren, Ph.D., vice president for student development. “He has served Bethel well for more than ten years and we are excited for what he brings to his new role. The Bethel Pilots can look forward to a bright future under his leadership.”

Visker replaces Jody Martinez, who served as athletic director for four years and head women’s basketball coach for 17 years. Martinez recently left Bethel for a coaching position at Southeastern University in Lakeland, Fla.

Visker comes to the position with 22 years of experience as the head baseball coach at Dordt College in Sioux Center, Iowa, in addition to his 11 years of experience as a dean and professor at Bethel.
