The pilot for a music competition show will be filmed next month in Muncie. "The Song" will feature musicians performing their original music and the culmination of filming will take place at Pruis Hall on the campus of Ball State University.
Producers say they chose Muncie because of Ball State’s music and television production departments. Executive Producer Michael Braverman said he wanted to produce the show from America’s heartland and "Muncie is as heartland as it gets."
Fifteen finalists will arrive in Muncie March 9 for the beginning of filming and the final two artists will have 48 hours to record their original work and make it ready for national release. The winning song will be unveiled at a special "reveal concert" at Pruis Hall on March 12.
The show will include celebrity judges, such as country music star Darius Rucker and former Senior Vice President of Promotion for Sony Music Skip Bishop. Tickets for the reveal concert will go on sale Friday morning.
The show is not Muncie’s first foray into reality television. In 2006, the city played host to the short-lived "Armed & Famous" which featured celebrities becoming officers with the Muncie Police Department.
