Under the HCM Records label, a group of students recently recorded an album in Nashville, Tennessee. Terry Linhart says the experience allows students to learn about business issues and how they intersect with creating art.
The record label and a new music publishing company, Bethel College (IN) Publishing, are extensions of the school’s Worship Arts major. The college says, in addition to music business and creativity, the program will prepare students for professional leadership in church worship and Christian music. Linhart says the major also exposes students to different theologies and denominations. He says, as students enter the professional world, they will need to understand the requirements and worship styles for different religious organizations.
HCM Records will release its first project, Anchor in the Undertow, on April 12. It was produced by five-time Grammy-nominated Billy Smiley, and includes several original songs. The school will host a release party that evening in the Sufficient Grounds Café and Campus Store on Bethel’s Mishawaka campus.
