The Muncie Community Schools Board of Trustees has added Corey Hartley (pictured) as principal of Southside Middle School and Sarah Shaffer (pictured) as principal of East Washington Academy. Also, Andy Klotz has been named chief communications officer.

Hartley has spent the past five years as director of elementary education for Richmond Community Schools. Prior to that, he served as an elementary and intermediate school principal and assistant principal with Westfield-Washington Schools. Hartley has also taught in Yorktown Community Schools. He holds a doctorate in education, a specialists in education, a masters in educational leadership and a bachelors in elementary education from Ball State University. 

Shaffer has served the past three years as principal and assistant principal at Paramount Schools of Excellence (K-4) in Indianapolis. She has both a masters in educational leadership and a masters of arts in education from Marian University. She also holds a bachelor of science in psychology and political science from Miami University (Ohio).

Klotz has more than three decades of experience in public relations, marketing and media. Most recently, he served as marketing and promotions Director at WFYI Public Media in Indianapolis. Prior to that, he served as media relations manager at Angie’s List. Klotz also spent 14 years as the publicity and media relations director for the Indiana State Fair Commission. He holds a bachelor of science in physical education from Indiana University.
