(NYSE: NWL) has decided to close its manufacturing facility in the Delaware County city, which produces lids for fresh preserving containers, including Ball Mason jars.
In a statement to Inside INdiana Business, a spokesperson for Newell Brands said the decision was made after "a review of necessary upgrades and improvements to the current facility." The Muncie plant employs approximately 100 workers.
The company says the manufacturing work will be outsourced to Ball Metal Food Container LLC in Columbus, Ohio and packaging and distribution efforts will move to the Newell Brands Food Division facility in Fishers.
"As we are aware of the history this facility has in Muncie, it’s our goal to ensure a smooth transition for all impacted employees and members of the community leading up to the facility’s planned closing in summer 2019," the spokesperson said.
