Mt. Vernon to Offer Downtown Facade Grants

The Mt. Vernon Redevelopment Commission has launched an initiative aimed at revitalizing local businesses and buildings in the city’s downtown. The Mt. Vernon Downtown Facade Grant Program will provide matching funds for facade improvement projects.
The Posey County Economic Development Partnership says a total of $20,000 will be made available for qualifying projects. Property owners in the downtown business district will be eligible to apply for a matching grant of 50 percent of the costs for their facade projects with a maximum grant of $5,000.
The funding became available following the commission’s establishment of the Downtown Redevelopment Area as a TIF District to capture increased property taxes. Those wishing to apply for grant funding will be able to do so from July 15 to August 31 at the Mt. Vernon City Hall.
